Rhode Island man, pet dog, die from injuries after wife strikes them with vehicle

Tragedy has struck in a Rhode Island neighborhood.

According to WJAR 10, on Wednesday, a tragic accident in a Westerly driveway claimed the lives of an 87-year-old man and a dog after they were struck by a vehicle driven by the man’s 84-year-old wife, authorities reported Thursday.

Westerly Police responded to a crash at an Atlantic Avenue residence around 1:45 p.m., where the elderly man and the dog sustained severe injuries. Despite immediate life-saving efforts at the scene, both were transported to local hospitals, where they succumbed to their injuries.

The police department’s initial investigation indicates the incident was a tragic accident.
