Rhode Island man on probation facing new charges after crashing into police cruiser with children in vehicle
A Rhode Island man currently on probation is facing new charges after a crash.
On June 14, 2023, just before 11:45 p.m., Troopers were investigating a motor vehicle crash on Route 95 North, south of Route 295 in the City of Warwick. One marked state police cruiser was parked in the right breakdown lane with its emergency lights activated. A vehicle traveling northbound entered the breakdown lane and struck the left side of the state police cruiser and failed to stop. Troopers were able to catch up to this vehicle and stopped it on Route 95 North at East Avenue.
The operator of the vehicle was identified as 27-year-old Montrell T. Marshall of Providence, Rhode Island. During the subsequent investigation, Marshall was charged with Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicating Liquor and/or Drugs -Blood Results Pending, Possession of a Schedule I-V Controlled Substance – Oxycodone, Possession of a Schedule I-V Controlled Substance – Alprazolam, Two Counts of Driving Under Influence of Intoxicating Liquor and/or Drugs with Minor Child Under < 13 Years Old, Duty to Stop in Accident Resulting in Damage to Vehicles, and Reckless Driving. Marshall was held overnight at the Wickford Barracks before his arraignment in Third District Court where he was also presented as a probation violator. The two minor children were released at the scene to the custody of their mother.
