Rhode Island man lucky to be alive, gives his account after crash on Route 495 in Massachusetts with multiple rollovers
A man injured in a highway rollover crash, miraculously, and thankfully, has lived to tell his story.
At approximately 3:15 p.m. on Wednesday a call came into dispatch for a two-vehicle crash on Route 495 South in Plainville.
Upon arrival, crews located two vehicles in the breakdown lane.
The driver of the heavily damaged vehicle pictured above was transported to Rhode Island Hospital. The second driver had moderate damage and no injuries.
Both Plainville and Foxborough crews responded to the scene.
The Massachusetts Department of Transportation announced at approximately 4:30 p.m. that delays of approximately six miles were being reported on I-495 southbound in the vicinity of exit 36 in Plainville. Lane closures were previously in place due to cleanup from the crash before all lanes were eventually opened.
Brandon Lanctot says that he was able to walk out of the hospital with minor cuts and bumps. He gave Fall River Reporter his account of the crash.
“I was traveling in the middle lane on 495 South, doing 60 mph. A white car in the far-right lane braked and swerved in front of me. In a split second I braked, threw my directional on and swerved hard into the far-left lane to avoid crashing into the back of the whole car. Upon swerving, I was hit HARD by something and sent flying down 495. I don’t recall how many times I rolled, but I was awake the whole time. No, I wasn’t wearing my seatbelt, however I feel like that saved my life. I ended up in the passenger seat. Minor cuts and bruises. I was transported to RI hospital and was checked out and released a little after 7pm last night. I was alone. No one was with me.”
Lanctot stated that he and his family are happy considering what could have been.
We second that.
