A Rhode Island man killed after a series of collisions this week is being remembered.

According to Connecticut State Police, at just after 9:15 p.m. on Wednesday, a 2023 GMC Sierra was traveling westbound on Route 101 in the area of Valley Road when it failed to negotiate a curve. The GMC Sierra traveled off of the roadway and entered the westbound roadside where it struck multiple mailboxes, a street sign, and a residential structure.

The operator of the GMC Sierra, 42-year-old Matthew James Sherman of Foster, RI, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased on scene.

The residential structure of 1348 Hartford Pike (Route 101) sustained catastrophic damage. The home was searched by Urban Search and Rescue and determined to be unoccupied at the time of the collision.

According to a GoFundMe fundraiser, Sherman leaves behind his beautiful fiancé and young daughter. He was described as someone who was special to many and always lent a helping hand to anyone in need.

The collision remains under investigation.
