Rhode Island man indicted for murder after fatal hit-and-run that killed 31-year-old Michael Lefebvre
A Rhode Island man previously wanted in a reported fatal hit-and-run collision has been indicted.
Crews responded to East School Street in Woonsocket at approximately 11:30 p.m. on Monday July 1st after a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle, later determined to be 31-year-old Michael Lefebvre of Woonsocket.
An investigation revealed that Lefebvre was allegedly intentionally hit by a man known to him, 37-year-old Andrew Michael Martin also of Woonsocket. It is believed to be the result of an ongoing dispute over domestic relationships.
The WPD then issued an arrest warrant for Martin.
Lefebvre died from his injuries, while Martin was allegedly on the run.
Martin was held without bail after being arrested in Pawtucket on July 9th.
Martin was charged with 1st Degree Murder, Assault With Intent to Commit Specified Felonies, Felony Assault and/or Battery, Driving so as to Endanger, Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury, and Driving With Suspended/Revoked/Cancelled License – 4th+ Offense.
The Rhode Island Attorney General’s Office announced today that the Providence County Grand Jury returned an indictment charging Martin with one count of murder.
In a GoFundMe fundraiser, the victim, Lefebvre, was described as a tow truck driver who was a loving and devoted father, brother, son, and friend.
“If you know Mike, you know his princess Sofia was his life! Michael’s two favorite things were his daughter and his work.”
Martin is scheduled to be arraigned on December 4th in Providence County Superior Court.
