Rhode Island man indicted concerning alleged kidnapping and victimizing of 75-year-old woman in Massachusetts
BROCKTON – Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy Cruz has announced that a Rhode Island man accused of kidnapping and assaulting a 75-year-old woman in Massachusetts has been indicted in Brockton Superior Court.
Michael J. Guerrero, 36, faces charges of carjacking, kidnapping, indecent assault and battery on a person over 60 or disabled, assault and battery on a person over 60 or disabled, and threatening to commit a crime. He was previously arraigned on related charges in Plymouth District Court and ordered held without bail following a dangerousness hearing.
The incident began on the evening of September 14th when the victim, after dining at a Ninety-Nine Restaurant in Pembroke, realized she had left her wallet and phone inside. Returning around 9:15 p.m., she found the front door locked and was approached by a man claiming to be a valet who offered to drive her to an open back entrance. Instead, he took control of her vehicle, drove her toward the highway, and demanded she perform sexual acts while threatening her with a gun. When he stopped at a four-way intersection—believed to be in Providence or Johnston, Rhode Island—the woman attempted to escape. Guerrero reportedly shut off the engine, threw the keys away, and fled on foot. The victim eventually made her way back to Massachusetts and reported the ordeal to Pembroke Police the next morning.
Pembroke Police posted surveillance images of the suspect on social media, prompting tips from employees at several local restaurants who recognized him from earlier that night. Investigators traced his movements through additional footage and rideshare records, positively identifying Guerrero as both the individual on camera and the passenger who had visited multiple bars and restaurants in the area shortly before the crime. He was arrested in Providence on September 24th and waived extradition the following day.
Guerrero will be scheduled for arraignment in Brockton Superior Court at a later date.
