A Rhode Island man is being accused of shooting at his roommate this past weekend.

According to police, on Sunday just before 1:45 a.m., Officers responded to an apartment complex on Hebert Street in Coventry to investigate the report of shot(s) fired.

Upon arrival, officers located an uninjured male outside the complex who reported that he had been shot at by his roommate, David Maldonado. Maldonado approached officers moments later admitting to the shooting while continuing to make threatening statements towards the victim.

Coventry Officers placed Maldonado in custody and recovered the firearm along with 1 bullet casing inside the apartment.

It was determined that a verbal and physical disturbance between the two males led to the shooting with the victim fleeing outside.

There were no injuries to anyone living in the apartment complex and the disturbance was limited to the involved parties.

Maldonado was charged with Domestic Assault with a Dangerous Weapon in a Dwelling House, Possession of a Firearm by Persons Prohibited and Firing in a Compact Area.

He was held overnight at the Coventry Police Headquarters and arraigned at Kent County District Court Monday where he was ordered held without bail.
