A Massachusetts police officer is being recognized for his quick thinking that saved a man’s life.
According to police, a few weeks ago, Officer Ryan Antonson of the Plymouth Police Department was patrolling Manomet Point when he was approached by a man bleeding profusely from the leg.
The man had accidentally given himself a large, deep, cut with his own car door. To complicate matters, the man was on blood thinners.
Officer Antonson immediately radioed for EMS, but knew he had to act. He applied bandages and applied pressure, but that did not work.
Ryan had no choice but to apply a tourniquet which successfully stopped the man’s loss of blood. EMS later arrived and quickly transported the man to the hospital.
The man’s blood loss was so bad that the Plymouth Fire Department had to hose down the roadway.
Due to his actions, The Plymouth Police Awards committee met and unanimously decided that Antonson saved a man’s life and should be awarded with the Department’s Life Saving Award.
The recommendation was endorsed by Chief Flynn who also wrote him a citation for the award.
