Rhode Island man facing felony charges after man dies from injuries suffered in collision
A Rhode Island man is facing upgraded charges after a crash that has turned fatal.
According to police, on September 29, 2024, at just after 8:30 p.m., the Smithfield Police Department responded to a collision between a motor vehicle and a bicyclist at 135 Pleasant View Avenue.
The bicyclist was critically injured and transported to Rhode Island Hospital.
Smithfield Police Officers took the operator, Lance Nicoletti, 38 years old of Greenville, RI into custody. He was charged with DUI Liquor or Drugs- Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury and Driving to Endanger- Resulting in Personal Injury.
Nicoletti will now face DUI Resulting in Death and Driving to Endanger, both felonies, as 65-year-old Robert Metheny of Smithfield has succumbed to his injuries.
His next court appearance is scheduled for next month.
