A Rhode Island man is being charged after a head-on crash left victims with serious injuries.
According to police, on Wednesday, at approximately 8:30 p.m., officers were dispatched to the area of 3480 Post Rd in Warwick for the report of a motor vehicle crash.
Officers arrived on the scene to find a two-vehicle head-on crash involving a Toyota Sienna minivan and a Toyota Camry sedan. The female occupants of the Camry were trapped in the vehicle and the front seat passenger was found to be unresponsive.
Warwick Fire and EMS responded to the scene. Fire personnel extricated the occupants from the Camry, and they were subsequently transported by ambulance to Rhode Island Hospital. Both occupants have serious injuries, and one is undergoing emergency surgery for life-threatening injuries.
The operator of the Toyota Minivan showed signs of impairment on scene and a DUI investigation was conducted by the responding officers. The 37-year-old male operator was placed under arrest for suspicion of driving under the influence and transported to the Warwick Police Department for further investigation.
