Rhode Island man facing charges after allegedly crashing into local lounge causing extensive damage
CRANSTON, RI – The Cranston Police Department arrested a Providence man early Wednesday morning after he allegedly drove his vehicle into the front of a local business while impaired.
At approximately 4:12 a.m. on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, officers responded to the Equis Lounge, 355 Dyer Avenue, for a report of a motor vehicle that had crashed into the building.
The subsequent investigation determined that Libasse Gadiaga, 24, of Providence, was traveling northbound on Dyer Avenue when he attempted to make a left turn onto Farmington Avenue. Investigators determined that Gadiaga negotiated an excessively wide turn, causing his vehicle to leave the roadway and crash into the front of the Equis Lounge, resulting in significant damage to the building.
Officers observed Gadiaga displaying obvious signs of impairment. He was taken into custody without incident and later refused to submit to a chemical breath test.
The Cranston Building Inspector responded to the scene and determined that, despite the significant damage, the building remained structurally sound.
Gadiaga was charged with Driving Under the Influence (1st Offense – BAC Unknown) and Refusal to Submit to a Chemical Test.
Gadiaga was arraigned this morning in Third Division District Court in Warwick.
The Cranston Police Department reminds motorists that impaired driving continues to pose a serious threat to public safety. Anyone who chooses to drive under the influence places themselves and others at unnecessary risk. If you plan to consume alcohol or other impairing substances, designate a sober driver, use a rideshare service, or arrange alternate transportation
