Responders meet 17-year-old whose life they saved at Bristol County hotel

Some local first responders not only met recently with a teen whose life they saved, but they were also bearing gifts.

According to owner/operator of Medic CPR, Tim Goodwin, in April, 17-year-old Sierra had a sudden cardiac arrest while staying at a hotel in Seekonk.

With early and aggressive CPR and early AED defibrillation, Sierra was revived and on Friday was able to meet with staff responsible for saving her life.

Sierra’s mother took to social media to express her gratitude.

“(Friday), our hearts were filled with joy and gratitude as we were privileged to meet all the remarkable heroes who played a pivotal role in saving Sierra’s life. Our hearts are filled with deep appreciation for the exceptional men and women of the Seekonk Police, Fire and Dispatch Departments. From the dispatcher who initiated the call, the police officers who performed CPR and operated the AED, and the entire fire & rescue department team who continued the life saving measures and swiftly transported Sierra to the hospital, left us in admiration of their professionalism and compassion.

“The gestures of kindness also from the leaders who run these amazing Emergency Response Crews were nothing short of admirable and remarkable. It is obvious they set the example of greatness for the people they lead.

“We were blown away when Sierra was presented with FOUR different challenge coins, t-shirts and a beautiful patch from different members of these exemplary organizations.

“A special mention is due to the Northern Impact Volleyball Club families whose generous donations allowed the purchase of an AED in Sierra’s honor for the Seekonk Police Department. Knowing that this life-saving device is accessible in one more of the patrol cars brings us great comfort, knowing it could potentially save another life.

“To each and every person involved in saving Sierra’s life, we extend our deepest gratitude. Your commitment, bravery, and selflessness have made an everlasting impact on our hearts. Thank you for your service and for exemplifying the true essence of heroes.”

Sierra is well on her way to recovery.
