Report: Swansea man known for his tasty BBQ, big heart, sense of humor, has passed away
A Swansea business owner who has been serving countless customers with tasty BBQ has died, according to multiple reports.
Timothy King, the owner and operator of Big Daddy Kings BBQ, a food truck specializing in authentic, slow-smoked barbecue located in Swansea, has passed away according to reports from friends.
With a lifelong passion for cooking, Tim decided to transform his love for food into a business, establishing the truck in 2019.
The operation focuses on “real deal BBQ” at affordable prices, using charcoal and wood to flavor meats sourced locally and seasonally when possible.
It also extends to nearby Somerset and moves around southern Massachusetts, particularly on weekends.
The South Coast Open Air Market issued one of several tributes to King.

A Tremendous Loss ![]()
“It’s with the heaviest of hearts that we share the passing of our beloved friend and SOAM vendor, Timothy King of Big Daddy Kings BBQ.
“When the news came in yesterday, we could hardly believe it…and honestly, still can’t. Tim had such a big-hearted presence, and his absence is going to be deeply felt.
“Tim was a staple at SOAM and in the community – not just for his incredible BBQ, but for the man behind the smoker. He always swung by the SOAM booth to chat, make us laugh, and share a little kindness. The last words we exchanged were “See you in two SOAMs.” We remember double-checking the schedule because it felt strange that he’d be skipping a market – he rarely ever did.
“Tim was the kind of person who made every space warmer, funnier, and more welcoming. He fed us with soul and served up joy just by being himself.
“To his wife, Hollie – we are wrapping you in love. To Tim – we are so grateful for the light, laughter, (and legendary BBQ) you brought into our lives. You were SOAMily, and always will be.
“Rest easy, Big Daddy. We’ll be thinking of you at every market, every grill, and every smile sparked by your memory. ![]()
