Authorities in Fall River reported on Friday that a 5-year-old child managed to survive a plunge from a third-floor window, miraculously avoiding major harm.

According to WJAR 10, police stated that the child’s mother had no idea the incident had occurred.

The accident took place at approximately 11:00 a.m. on Thursday at the Heritage Heights complex, where the child tumbled approximately 20 feet before landing on a patch of grass.

Police noted that the child remained responsive, aware, and breathing normally, showing no obvious severe trauma. Responding officers provided immediate assistance and worked to find a parent of the child.

Investigators learned that the mother was inside their apartment on the third level, unaware of her child’s fall through the window.

The preliminary investigation suggests that the window screen had been dislodged.
