Repeat offender sentenced to prison in Fall River Superior Court on drug and firearm charges
A local man has been sentenced in Fall River Superior Court after pleading guilty to drug and gun charges from 2024.
According to police, on January 17th, 2024, at approximately 7:00 p.m., Detective Nathaniel Almeida concluded an investigation into a cocaine distribution operation being operated out of Mosher Street in New Bedford. The target of the investigation was Deshawn Hunt.
A search warrant was executed on the apartment as detectives looked for evidence. As a result of the search, Hunt was found to be in possession of over 108 grams of cocaine and 4 Percocet tablets. Digital scales and packaging materials used to prepare narcotics for street-level sales were also discovered. $2,015 in cash was seized as a result of proceeds from illicit activity. Detectives also located two 9 MM handguns.
Hunt had previously been convicted of illegally possessing a firearm stemming from an incident in 2017. During that incident, shots were fired at a victim who was believed to be a witness in a homicide investigation.
As a result of this investigation, Hunt was placed under arrest and was charged with Trafficking Cocaine in Excess of 100 Grams, Illegal Possession of a Firearm and a Large Capacity Magazine, and Possession of a Class B Substance.
Court records show that on May 21st, Hunt pled guilty to Possessing a Firearm Without an FID Card and Possession With Intent to Distribute a Class B Drug. He was sentenced Tuesday to not less than 3 1/2 years to not more than 4 years in State Prison with credit for 369 days already served.
