BROCKTON – The man suspected in a double stabbing in Brockton has been taken into custody in Vermont, Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy Cruz has announced.

On Monday at just before 7:45 p.m., the Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit assigned to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office was notified by Brockton Police of a double stabbing which occurred at 23 Melrose Avenue.

The two male victims were transported to area hospitals. One male victim was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital where he was pronounced dead of his injuries. He has been identified as 59-year-old William Hewlett. The second victim, a 61-year-old male, was treated and released from South Shore Hospital.

As a resulting of the active and ongoing investigation, Massachusetts State Police sought and obtained an arrest warrant for Kevin Digregorio, 33, of Randolph.

Vermont State Police and the U.S. Marshals located Digregorio Wednesday morning sleeping in a motor vehicle along a roadway in Lunenberg, Vt., and he was placed under arrest.

Digregorio will be arraigned on Murder and other charges in Brockton District Court, after the outcome of the rendition process in Vermont.

According to Cruz, the investigation is ongoing, but preliminarily, this does not appear to be a random act of violence.
