Providence Police Chief Oscar Perez announced charges Saturday afternoon after a Fall River teen was stabbed to death early this morning.
According to Providence Police, a stabbing occurred around midnight in the parking lot of the Wendy’s on Charles Street following an altercation at Mezza Lounge.
Two men sustained stab wounds. 18-year-old Marvins Antoine of Fall River suffered stab wounds to the chest. He was transported to Rhode Island Hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.
19-year-old Kensley Macean of Dighton and a graduate of Dighton-Rehoboth High School sustained non-life-threatening injuries to the head and neck area. He was transported to Rhode Island Hospital for treatment.
Both victims are football players at UMass Dartmouth and were at Mezza Lounge with other members of the team.
After further investigation and with the aid of license plate readers, 19-year-old Chukuwnonso Uzoma-eze was charged with murder and is currently being held in the custody of the UMass Dartmouth Police Department.
Additional charges may be filed.
A friend of Antoine told Fall River Reporter that “he was a great friend, and he just started college two weeks ago. He had a bright future ahead of him. He was always outgoing and funny and when you hung out with him, he never failed to make you laugh, smile and have a good time.”.
Antoine was a star athlete for both Durfee and Atlantis Charter schools playing basketball and running back in football. He was a freshman at UMass.
Authorities believe the parties did not know each other.
Providence Police detectives continue to work with the UMass Dartmouth Police Department and other law enforcement partners as the investigation moves forward. Detectives are continuing to:
- Interview witnesses;
- Review available surveillance footage;
- Collect and analyze evidence; and
- Determine the complete sequence of events leading up to the stabbing.
The investigation remains active. Detectives are working to determine the circumstances surrounding the altercation and stabbing.
