PROVIDENCE, RI — Providence Police have charged a 17-year-old juvenile with murder in connection with the fatal shooting of 20-year-old Joseph Ramos on Swift Street.
According to police, on Monday, May 11, 2026, at just after 2:15 a.m., Providence Police officers responded to the area of Swift Street near Silver Spring Street for a report of a man down in the roadway.
Upon arrival, officers located Ramos suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the head. Ramos, who was reportedly riding a three-wheeled motor bike at the time of the incident, was transported to Rhode Island Hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.
Following an investigation by Providence Police detectives, a 17-year-old juvenile was identified and was arraigned today in Family Court on a charge of murder in connection with Ramos’ death.
“This was a senseless act of violence that took the life of a 20-year-old young man and deeply impacted his family and our community,” said Providence Police Chief Oscar Perez. “Our detectives worked diligently to identify the person responsible, and I commend them for their commitment to this investigation. We will continue working to ensure accountability and seek justice for Mr. Ramos and his family.”
The Providence Police Department would like to acknowledge the assistance and cooperation of the Rhode Island Office of the Attorney General throughout the investigation.
Because the defendant was a juvenile when this crime was committed, no additional information was released.
