Previously wanted New Hampshire man sentenced for crimes against a child in Massachusetts
SALEM, Mass. – December 5, 2024 – Gjon Gjegji, 56, of Pelham, N.H. and formerly of Haverhill, Mass., was sentenced Wednesday in Superior Court in Salem to 13 to 14 years in state prison for rape of a child. On September 27, a jury found Gjegji guilty of three counts of rape of a child (aggravated by age difference) and three counts of rape of a child with force. The indictments, returned in March of 2022, were a result of crimes that occurred in 2007.
“We truly admire the strength and courage demonstrated by the victim in this case throughout the court process,” said Essex County District Attorney Paul F. Tucker.
The Hon. Camille F. Sarrouf, Jr. presided over the case. Gjegji was represented by attorney William Sullivan. Following the completion of the state prison sentence, Gjegji will be on probation for three years.
Assistant District Attorney Erin Bellavia represented the Commonwealth in the case and Amy Snow served as victim/witness advocate. The investigation was conducted by Penny Portalla of the Haverhill Police Department.
