Previously convicted Pawtucket man accused of stealing safe from his employer

A Rhode Island man has been arrested after being accused of stealing from his place of employment.
According to police, on Wednesday, members of the Cumberland Police Department responded to 4 Carl Street, Jahn’s Metal Craft, for the report of a large safe being stolen which contained a substantial amount of cash for the business. As Detectives and Uniformed personnel scoured the neighborhood for video and witness information, they were able to identify a current employee of the business, 40-year-old Basilio Andrade of Pawtucket, as the prime suspect. An arrest warrant was obtained based on probable cause, and Andrade was taken into custody this morning in front of the business without incident.
Andrade has been charged with Rhode Island General Law, 11-8-3, Entry of a building or ship with felonious intent, and is currently held pending arraignment.
Andrade had been convicted of two prior breaking and entering cases out of Rhode Island, along with additional minor arrests in his criminal history.
Police Chief Matthew Benson advised, “This was an outstanding team effort by all involved. When you have a trusted employee found to have stolen financial resources from their employer that is used to pay bills and maintain the viability and livelihood of the business, especially in these challenging economic times, validates why we work so hard at what we do. I’m glad that we were able to apprehend the individual responsible for this theft. Communities have no space or patience for those that decide to just take what isn’t theirs and I’m glad that someone who would do so is off of the street right now.”
