Preliminary report: Ride share passenger flees on foot from Massachusetts State Police, struck on highway by passing vehicle

A person was struck on the highway Sunday evening after reportedly fleeing from police.

According to preliminary information from Massachusetts State Police, shortly after 9:00 p.m. Sunday, State Police received a 911 call from a ride share driver with safety concerns about their passenger who was acting erratically. A Trooper on patrol located the vehicle near exit 8 on I-93 South in Quincy.

When the Trooper attempted to speak with the passenger, they fled on foot.

Moments later, a passing vehicle struck and seriously injured them.

Troopers, Quincy Fire, and EMS facilitated the person’s transport to a Boston hospital with life-threatening injuries.

For the safety of investigators, officials closed the right and middle lanes near the scene.

Troopers from the South Boston barracks, Crime Scene Services, Collision Analysis Reconstruction Section, and the Detective Unit Assigned to the Norfolk District Attorney’s Office have responded to the scene.
