TIVERTON, RI – An early morning blaze has destroyed a home and had a response by several local departments.

According to the Tiverton Fire Department, on Friday, at approximately 4:00 a.m., the department was dispatched to a reported structure fire at 24 Lee Way.

Upon arrival, fire arriving crews found heavy smoke and fire coming from a single-story home.

Two occupants and their dog were able to escape the residence prior to the fire department’s arrival. Crews initiated an aggressive fire attack to bring the fire under control.

Due to the intensity of the fire and manpower needs, a second alarm was requested. Mutual aid companies from Fall River, Westport and Portsmouth responded to the scene, while Little Compton and Middletown provided station coverage in Tiverton.

There were no injuries at the scene.

Tiverton FD stated that the preliminary investigation indicates that the cause of the fire is accidental in nature and may have begun in the area of the chiminea. The fire remains under investigation by the Rhode Island State Fire Marshal’s Office, working in conjunction with the Tiverton Fire Marshal and detectives from the Tiverton Police Department.
