Power outage, flooding, cancels final walkthrough of old Diman, however free yard sale with Diman memorabilia to be held in school gym
Fall River, MA — Diman Regional Vocational Technical High School regrets to announce that the planned final walkthrough of its existing school building has been altered due to flooding that caused a major power outage affecting essential building utilities.
Utilities will not be restored prior to the event. In addition to the loss of electrical power and telephone service, the building no longer has properly illuminated exit signs, running water, or restroom facilities, making it impossible to safely welcome visitors into the building for a true walkthrough.
The walkthrough was intended to provide alumni, former staff, community members, and supporters with one final opportunity to visit the current building before Diman transitions to its new campus later this summer. Unfortunately, the loss of these essential building services requires the event to be altered.
A Community “Yard Sale” with Diman memorabilia will still be held on Sunday, July 12, 2026, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. in the gymnasium. Members of the public are invited to browse a variety of surplus items from the existing school building that will be available free of charge while supplies last. Items will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Please note that restroom facilities will not be available during the event, and parking will be limited. Parking will be available in the student parking lot, which is currently under construction. Guests are advised to use extra caution, as the parking surface will be gravel and conditions may be uneven.
“We know many members of our community were looking forward to taking one last walk through the building that has served generations of students,” said Brian S. Bentley, Superintendent-Director. “We sincerely apologize for this unexpected alteration and appreciate everyone’s understanding. While we are disappointed that we cannot offer the final walkthrough, we are pleased to still welcome the community for the “yard sale” and provide an opportunity for people to take home a piece of Diman’s history.”
Diman stated that they appreciate the patience, understanding, and continued support of the community as preparations continue for the transition to its new campus.
“The District looks forward to welcoming students, families, alumni, and community members to future events celebrating this exciting new chapter in Diman’s history.”
Although the final walkthrough has been altered, a video highlighting Diman’s final year in its existing building, including footage of the recent flooding, will be posted on the Diman website and YouTube channel allowing alumni, former staff, and community members to take one last look inside the school.
