Portsmouth, RI Police arrest man for DUI with 1- and 6-year-olds in vehicle
Portsmouth, RI — According to Portsmouth Police, on Saturday, a man was arrested by the Portsmouth Police Department Patrol Division and charged with DUI of Liquor/Drugs with a Child Passenger Under 13 Year of Age.
32-year-old Jhonny Cespedes-Gil of Hartford, Connecticut was stopped as the result of a laned roadway violation after his vehicle had been observed crossing the roadway’s painted centerline.
During the traffic stop, officers observed two minor children in the rear passenger seats of the vehicle.
Following a DUI investigation, the suspect was taken into custody and processed at the Portsmouth Police Department.
Cespedes-Gil was later released with a District Court Summons to appear in Newport County District Court on July 18th, 2024. The minor children, ages 6 and 1 were released to the custody of a family members on scene.
This arrest was one of five DUI arrests made between Thursday, July 4th and Sunday, July 7th, as part of the Portsmouth Police Department’s enhanced DUI enforcement operations.
