On Sunday, police made an arrest on the property of the Glen Manor House, 3 Frank Coelho Drive, Portsmouth, Rhode Island, for firearms related charges.

At approximately 3:00 a.m., a Portsmouth Police patrol officer was conducting a check of the Portsmouth owned Glen Manor House property and observed a suspicious vehicle parked in the lot. The officer approached the unoccupied vehicle and observed numerous open alcoholic beverages as well as shotgun shells and handgun ammunition. Officers began canvassing the area and located four individuals fishing on the Glen Manor House dock. Also located on the dock were numerous alcoholic beverages.

Officers identified Nelson Rivera of Chelsea, Massachusetts as the owner of the vehicle in the parking lot. While speaking with Rivera, officers observed obvious signs of intoxication and when questioned, Rivera advised officers that he was in possession of a concealed firearm in his waistband. Officers located a nine-millimeter handgun tucked into his pants as well as a loaded ten round magazine. Rivera, who is not licensed to carry a concealed weapon, was then taken into custody.

On Sunday, Nelson Rivera was arraigned by a Justice of Peace on one count of Carrying a Pistol while Intoxicated and one count of License or Permit Required for Carrying a Pistol. The remaining individuals on scene were dispersed without further incident.

Bail was set at $5,000 with surety and as a condition of his bail, Rivera was issued a No Trespass Order for the Glen Manor House. Rivera will be re-arraigned on Thursday at the 2nd Division District Court in Newport.
