Portsmouth, Bristol Police rescue juvenile from suicide attempt
Local police saved a life early this morning.
On 01-09-2019 just before 3:00 a.m., Portsmouth Police was contacted that a juvenile, who was making suicidal comments, may be heading in a vehicle to the Mt. Hope Bridge.
Officers Bruce Celico, Jean Marie Stewart and Matthew Wilson responded to the Mt. Hope Bridge in an attempt to locate the vehicle and the individual. Officer Celico was the first to arrive and observed the individual and the vehicle on the center span of the bridge. The individual was observed struggling with a family member who had also responded to the bridge. As the officers approached, the individual started to make comments about jumping from the bridge. The officers on scene had to physically restrain the individual to prevent the juvenile from jumping from the bridge.
The Portsmouth Fire Department responded and transported the juvenile to a local hospital for an evaluation. Bristol Police also assisted during this incident.
