The wait is almost over. A popular Fall River bakery will be reopening soon after being closed for several months.

Lou’s Bakery at 379 East Main Street announced on social media at the end of November that they would be going on a temporary hiatus.

“Hope Everyone had a Joyous Thanksgiving!

“As we approach Christmas and the upcoming festivities, we have an announcement to make!

“At the beginning of 2025, we will have a brief pause to our baking and business operations. This temporary closure is the result of prearranged circumstances.

“Temporary closure will begin on December 25, 2024, and extend to April 1, 2025.

“So, in the meantime, stock up in December and freeze some!

“This is our first extended closure in our history, and as always, we look forward to seeing everyone this Holiday Season and upon our return in April!”

On March 30th, Lou’s announced that the closure would be extended as they continued to recover from ongoing challenges.

On Tuesday, they revealed that they would be reopening on May 8th in time for Mother’s Day with hours of operation of Thursday, Friday & Saturday (6AM –12PM) and Sunday (6AM – Sell Out).

The bakery, owned by John Arruda, has been in business for over 4 decades and specializes in Portuguese sweet bread, malassadas, cakes, pastries, pies, and rolls.
