The Fall River City Council on Wednesday night reelected Cliff Ponte, Jr., as its president and Pamela Laliberte-Lebeau as vice president.

Every city councilor, except for Steven Camara, nominated Ponte to serve as council president for 2019. Camara nominated himself, but later moved to support Ponte.

Ponte and Lebeau, who was unanimously nominated, were sworn in at the start of the special meeting, in which the City Council voted 8-1 to schedule the mayoral recall election on March 12.

“It’s an honor to sit in this chair, with every single one of you, and I’m looking forward to a year where we can continue to strive collectively to improve this community,” Ponte said.

Later in the evening, the City Council voted to have the Fall River recall election on March 12. Ponte discussed it after the meeting:
