Poll: Massachusetts Voters Like The Idea of Senator Charlie Baker
By Chris Lisinski
Former Gov. Charlie Baker has been predictably coy about whether he’ll one day seek a return to elected office, and a new poll suggests Bay State voters are open to his return.
A MassINC Polling Group survey of 582 likely voters found that 40 percent would cast ballots for Baker, a Republican, in a hypothetical matchup against Democrat Sen. Ed Markey, who has said he’ll seek reelection in 2026. Three percent said they would vote for another candidate, and another 3 percent said they would not vote in the Senate race. Nineteen percent said they were undecided.
The poll ran from Oct. 29 to Nov. 1 and had a margin of error of plus or minus 4.9 percentage points. Baker, who is now president of the NCAA, last month didn’t rule out a return to politics but did not want to discuss much other than his current work on collegiate sports.
