Police release name of deceased, details, concerning fatal crash on Route 28

MIDDLEBOROUGH — Police Chief Robert Ferreira and Fire Chief Owen Thompson report that the Middleborough Police and Fire Departments responded to a fatal motor vehicle crash on Route 28 on Friday.

At approximately 8:30 a.m., the Middleborough Police and Fire Departments were called to the area of 446 Wareham St. (Route 28), for a report of a crash.

First responders arrived to discover a single-vehicle crash involving a vehicle that left the roadway and crashed into a wooded area. A 72-year-old woman who was driving the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver has been identified as Susan Sumner, of Middleborough.

The crash remains under investigation by the Middleborough Police Department, with assistance from State Police detectives attached to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office, and CRASH Investigative Team.
