Police release details on motorcycle versus vehicle crash on Route 44 that injured 4 people, some life-threatening

RAYNHAM — Police Chief David LaPlante and Fire Chief Bryan LaCivita report that the Raynham Police and Fire Departments responded Wednesday to the scene of a motor vehicle-vs.-motorcycle collision on Route 44.

At approximately 5:30 p.m., Raynham dispatchers received multiple 911 calls reporting a crash near 165 New State Highway (Route 44), about one mile west of the interchange with Route 24.

According to a preliminary investigation, a 2020 Toyota Camry was trying to make a left-hand turn onto Route 44 westbound when it struck a 2012 Harley-Davidson, operated by a 55-year-old male who had a 16-year-old female passenger, that was headed east.

Route 44 remained closed for nearly two hours as police investigated.

Four people were taken to area hospitals:

The motorcycle operator, a 55-year-old male from Taunton, was transported by Raynham firefighters to Good Samaritan Hospital in Brockton with life-threatening injuries.

The motorcycle passenger, a 16-year-old female from unknown address, was transported by Raynham firefighters to Good Samaritan with critical injuries.

The Camry’s operator, a 74-year-old female from Middleborough, was transported by Brewster Ambulance to St. Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford with non-life-threatening injuries.

A passenger in the Camry, a 50-year-old male from Middleborough, was transported by Bridgewater firefighters to Morton Hospital in Taunton with unspecified injuries.

A medical helicopter was requested, but could not land near the scene because of mechanical issues.

The crash remains under investigation by Raynham Police.
