Police are looking for the public’s help to identify the owners of an abandoned dog.

According to a police press release, on Monday, at approximately 1:00 p.m., the Attleboro Police Department responded to a report of an abandoned dog at the Seasons Corner Market on Washington St. in South Attleboro.

“Upon the initial investigation, it was learned that two individuals had entered the store at approximately 1:40 a.m. that morning and left a small dog in a cage with an employee there. They reportedly told the clerk that they had found the cage on the side of the road and did not know what to do with it.

“Shortly after, a good Samaritan customer then took the dog home with him overnight.

“The store’s manager, upon arrival later in the day, became concerned for the dog’s well-being, and then contacted police.

“The investigating officer was then able to track down the good Samaritan, who ultimately turned the dog over to Attleboro Animal Control.

“The dog was found to be in good health, appeared to be well-cared-for, and in no apparent distress. It is currently in the custody of and being cared for by Attleboro Animal Control.

“The dog is described as an approximately 6-month-old female Yorkshire Terrier. The dog had no collar, and no microchip identifier.”

As police continue the investigation, the Attleboro Police Department is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the owner of the dog.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Attleboro Police Department at (508) 222-1212.
