Taunton Police are looking for the public’s help after vandalism to a beloved part of the city.

According to Taunton Police, on Saturday evening, at around 9:00 p.m., individuals on both 2 and 4-wheeled ATV’s intentionally tore up the manicured lawn on the historic Taunton Green by doing donuts in multiple locations. The Taunton Police Department in conjunction with the City of Taunton Parks, Recreation and Public Grounds Department and Mayor Shaunna O’Connell’s Office is actively seeking the public’s help in identifying individuals involved in this recent destruction of property.

Police noted that the Taunton Green is both a historic landmark and also an actively used beloved community space that significant resources are allocated to on an annual basis so that it may be enjoyed by all. It belongs to all citizens of Taunton and all members of the community should be outraged.

“The damage is both significant and unnecessary and we are committed to holding those responsible accountable.”

If you witnessed any suspicious activity in the area or have information that could assist in the investigation, contact the Taunton Police Department Detectives at 508-824-7522, ext. 3121 and leave a message and a detective will return your call. You may also leave a message anonymously. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated, as we work to preserve our community spaces and ensure the safety of all residents.
