2ND UPDATE: https://fallriverreporter.com/fall-river-man-shot-by-police-in-brockton-saturday/

UPDATE: Ongoing investigation indicates that the shooting occurred next to a building that is part of a residential complex on Colonel Bell Drive. The suspect is from that area.

After the trooper shot the suspect and secured him, the trooper rendered first aid to him. Numerous other Troopers and Brockton Police responded to assist at the scene following the shooting.

The reason for the initial interaction with the suspect is part of the ongoing investigation. The processing of the scene is ongoing. The State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section is assisting — which is common in shootings — by mapping the scene using what we call a total station device. It’s an electronic measuring device mounted on a tripod that records exact distances and other data.

Previous story:

A Massachusetts State Trooper was involved in a shooting incident earlier this morning on Colonel Bell Drive in Brockton.

The facts and circumstances of the incident are the subject of active investigation at this time. Preliminary information suggests that just prior to 9 a.m., during a confrontation with a male suspect, the Trooper discharged his weapon. The male suffered a lower body gunshot injury that is believed to be non-life threatening.

The male has been transported to an area hospital. The Trooper is also being evaluated.

The shooting is under investigation by State Police Detectives, Crime Scene Services, and a specialized MSP team of senior investigators that responds to Trooper-involved shootings.

As is standard in all police-involved shootings in Massachusetts, the district attorney of jurisdiction — in this case the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office — will oversee the investigation, and will ultimately determine whether the use of potentially-lethal force by police was justified based on the facts and the law.
