Police investigating, looking for witnesses after pedestrian seriously injured after being struck by vehicle in Rhode Island

Police have issued an update and are asking for the public’s help concerning a pedestrian collision that took place this week.

On Wednesday at approximately 7:00 a.m., the South Kingstown Police Department responded to a report of a pedestrian struck by a motor vehicle in the area of 116 Main Street.

The pedestrian sustained serious injuries and was transported to Rhode Island Hospital by South Kingstown Emergency Medical Services. The pedestrian is now recovering at Rhode Island Hospital. Police stated their name will not be released.

The South Kingstown Police Collision Reconstruction Unit and Detectives with the South Kingstown Police continue to investigate this incident. At this time, no criminal or motor vehicle charges have been filed against the operator of the vehicle.

Preliminary findings indicate the pedestrian was walking in the roadway and was not in a crosswalk.

The South Kingstown Police Department reminds pedestrians to be visible to drivers before
entering the roadway and to always use crosswalks whenever available. Motorists are advised to adhere to speed limits, avoid distractions, and ensure that pedestrians can see them.
