Police investigating after 78-year-old driver killed after collision with Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority train

A man is dead after his vehicle collided with a Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority train.

According to police, on Saturday, at just after 11:15 a.m., the Cohasset Police Department was dispatched to the Beechwood Street railroad crossing following reports of a collision involving a train and a motor vehicle.

Upon their arrival, officers discovered a 78-year-old man who had sustained traumatic injuries. Unfortunately, despite the prompt response of paramedics from the Cohasset Fire Department, the individual was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The death is one of several recently involving collisions with trains in Massachusetts. A few at least were intentional by pedestrians.

The incident is currently under investigation by the MBTA Transit Police, Massachusetts State Police assigned to the Norfolk County District Attorney’s Office, and the Cohasset Police Department.

The vehicle involved was a 2015 GMC pick-up truck, which was declared a total loss due to the impact of the collision. The investigation aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of the circumstances surrounding this tragic event.

As of 4:30 p.m., Beechwood Street is open, and the scene is clear.
