An early morning crash on Monday has claimed the life of a Massachusetts teen.

According to police, the single-vehicle crash occurred at approximately 4:15 a.m. on Quaker Street in Northbridge.

The preliminary investigation suggests that 18-year-old Maverick Westcott from Milford, Massachusetts was driving a 2010 Honda Civic southbound at a high rate of speed when he lost control, causing the vehicle to veer off the road, flip over a guardrail, strike a tree, and go down an embankment.

The car’s roof was crushed, trapping Westcott inside.

Emergency crews extricated him, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

No other vehicles appear to be involved, and no additional injuries were reported.

The Northbridge Police, with assistance from the Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit assigned to the Worcester County District Attorney’s office, are investigating.
