Police investigate as pedestrian killed on Interstate 95 remembered as kind, caring, helpful
The name has been released of a pedestrian that was killed on a Rhode Island highway.
A call came into dispatch at approximately 7:00 p.m. on Friday for a person walking in the lanes of Interstate 95.
Another call came in shortly after for a pedestrian struck on I-95 in Pawtucket.
Rhode Island State Police located 79-year-old Avelino Gonsalves of East Providence in the roadway.
He was transported to Rhode Island Hospital where he later died from his injuries.
According to those who knew Gonsalves, he was a great man who was kind, caring, helpful and had an amazing soul.
The accident including why Gonsalves was walking on the highway, is under investigation.
