Police in Massachusetts raid illegal THC candy operation, well over $100,000 in product seized
A police department in Massachusetts recently raided a large THC candy operation that reportedly manufactured the product, created the packaging, and packed the product up.
Acting on a tip, the Braintree Police Drug Control Unit executed a search warrant on a commercial business address on Mill Lane in Braintree. Upon searching the premises, the detectives located what can be described as an illegal THC edible/gummy operation. THC, or tetrahydrocannabinol, is the chemical responsible for most of marijuana’s psychological effects.
Numerous sheets of THC gummies were found cooling on racks along with thousands of already packaged gummies in various flavors. Each package contained 10 gummies each. Similar packages are sold online for about $50 each, according to Braintree PD.
Detectives estimate the street value of the gummies seized to be well over $100,000. Also located were 17-liter bottles containing various amounts of THC oil, some of which were full. PD stated that depending on the quality, a liter of THC oil sells for about $2500 to $3000 on the (legal) commercial market.
The space was outfitted with commercial kitchen equipment and commercial packing materials. Included was a large, high-end laser printer presumably to create packages for the edibles. It appeared that this space was used exclusively for the manufacture and packaging of THC edibles. The commercial space has been rented since about 2020. The Town of Braintree had nothing on file related to business conducted at the property. According to police, the owner of the property was not involved in the operation.
Several people will face various charges to include Manufacturing a Class D Drug and Trafficking in Marijuana, 100 lbs. to less than 2000 lbs. The Braintree Police did not identify the individuals charged.
Braintree Police cautioned that without regulation, edibles made illicitly could contain much higher amounts of THC which can increase negative side effects. Also, unregulated oils and edibles can contain other toxic contaminants, and be dangerous to the health of users.
