Police have arrested a Massachusetts man on multiple charges after finding him in his underwear.

According to Chief Phillip Tavares, on Monday, at approximately 7:42 a.m., the Marshfield Police Department received a report of a man in his underwear, talking to himself and walking in the sand pit on Forest Street across from the Martinson Elementary School. Responding Officers began searching the area on foot using a Marshfield Police K-9, a Humvee and aerial surveillance from a drone. In a small wooded area in the middle of the sand pit, officers discovered a tent and a small unoccupied campground that appeared as though it was currently being lived in. At 10:38 a.m., while searching the area, the Marshfield Police Station received a 911 call from a resident on Forest Street reporting a man fitting the same description was inside of their vehicle and had left on foot, heading south on Forest Street.

Officers responded to the area and began searching using a Police K-9. While searching the area, a 911 call was received from a resident on Grandview Avenue reporting a black Ford Focus stopped in front of their house and a man fitting the suspect’s description exited the vehicle and began walking towards Carlton Road talking to himself. Simultaneously, a 911 call was received from a resident of Carlton Road reporting the same man had entered their house and attempted to barricade the living room door shut with two people inside. When he was unable to do so, he left the residence and began walking towards the neighbor’s house.

Officers arrived on scene and located the suspect, later identified as 37-year-old Michael Clancy of Plymouth, in a back yard on Carlton Road. Clancy was wearing underwear and a stolen Boat Captain’s hat and was exiting from under the deck carrying a stolen Kayak and yelling obscenities. He was heading towards the marsh in an attempt to leave the scene.

Clancy was taken into custody without incident and transported to Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Plymouth for evaluation. While being transported to the hospital in a Marshfield Fire Department Ambulance, Clancy spit on a Marshfield Police Officer and a Marshfield Fire Fighter and physically assaulted a second Marshfield Fire Fighter.

Upon investigation, it was determined the black Ford Focus Clancy was operating had been stolen.

According to a check of the Massachusetts RMV, Clancy’s Massachusetts Driver’s License was also revoked at the time he operated the black Ford Focus which he had stolen from a residence on Forest Street.

Clancy is still being held without bail at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Plymouth until Friday when he will be arraigned pending a dangerousness hearing.

He was charged with Breaking and Entering into Vehicle in the Daytime for a Felony (2 counts), Larceny of a Motor Vehicle, Breaking and Entering in the Daytime for a Felony (Person in Fear), Larceny Over $250, Assault and Battery on a Police Officer, Assault and Battery on Ambulance Personnel (2 counts), and Operating a Motor Vehicle with License Revoked.
