Plymouth man accused of killing father pleads not guilty, reportedly threatened to kill father previously
PLYMOUTH – A Plymouth man is being held without bail, charged in the murder of his 73 year-old father, Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy Cruz has announced.
On Friday, 26-year-old Matthew Paluzzi pleaded not guilty to one count of Murder in Plymouth District Court. The charge follows an investigation by Massachusetts State Police and Plymouth Police into the fatal stabbing of 73-year-old Anthony Paluzzi.
At just before 6:30 a.m. Thursday morning, Plymouth Police received a 911 call from the victim’s wife at 15 Cedar Road for a report of a man unresponsive, bleeding from an apparent laceration to the neck. The caller reported that the victim was covered with blood, and a kitchen knife was located near the front door. Plymouth Police and emergency personnel responded, and Anthony Paluzzi was pronounced deceased.
Plymouth Police contacted Massachusetts State Police assigned to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office, and began the investigation. Plymouth Police put out a bulletin for Matthew Paluzzi and a motor vehicle, a 2017 Nissan Murano. A motorist identified the vehicle traveling in Kingston and called 911. Hanover Police and Massachusetts State Police made a traffic stop in the area of Columbia Road, and operator Matthew Paluzzi was taken into custody. He had apparent blood stains on his clothing, and a swab of his hands resulted in a presumptive positive screen for the presence of blood.
According to WHDH, Matthew Paluzzi’s brother heard him threaten to kill his father at a family party. His mother also noticed a recent change in his mental health. Matthew Paluzzi reportedly told police that he snapped. He also has previous history with police.
The state Office of the Chief Medical Examiner has accepted jurisdiction and will determine a cause of death.
Paluzzi is currently being held without bail. He is next scheduled to appear in court on October 2.
