Plymouth County man indicted on murder charge after neighbors unknowingly help him transport dead body of Declan Perry
A Plymouth County Grand Jury indicted a Scituate man on a murder charge Friday in Brockton Superior Court, stemming from his alleged killing of another man in August before dropping the body off at South Shore Hospital, Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy Cruz announced.
42-year-old Christopher Caron previously pleaded not guilty to one count of murder in the death of 27-year-old Declan Perry of Portland, Maine, and was held without bail.
Caron is scheduled to appear for a hearing in Superior Court at a later date.
Investigators from the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office State Police Detective Unit and local police determined that on August 12th, Caron and Perry texted about meeting in Massachusetts to buy narcotics. On August 22nd, Perry traveled to meet Caron, and the pair drove to Boston, where they purchased fentanyl and cocaine before returning to a residence in Scituate. At about 11:49 p.m., Caron conducted an internet search for “7-Eleven and Narcan.” Around 3 a.m., Caron and a female witness allegedly administered three doses of Narcan to Perry. The female witness fell asleep and awoke at 7 a.m. to find Perry deceased.
According to investigators, the female witness repeatedly asked Caron to seek medical assistance for Perry, but he refused. Once discovering Perry was dead, Caron wrapped the body in moving blankets and secured it with duct tape. Caron and the female witness then moved the body from the residence’s basement, attempting to use a wooden door as a stretcher to load it into Perry’s Honda Civic. Several neighbors noticed Caron struggling and assisted in placing the body into the car.
At about 2:07 p.m. on August 23rd, Weymouth Police were contacted by South Shore Hospital staff reporting a potential deceased body in the rear seat of a black Honda Civic with Maine license plates, parked in front of the emergency room entrance. A hospital unit coordinator approached the vehicle and found an unresponsive male, later identified as Perry, wrapped in multiple blankets secured with duct tape. Perry was pronounced deceased at approximately 2:15 p.m.
Through surveillance footage and interviews, investigators determined that Caron drove Perry’s vehicle to the hospital, alerted medical staff to the body, and then fled the area.
A search warrant for the Scituate residence revealed red-brown stains in the apartment and on a door. State Police also found a bag at the Weymouth home of the female witness containing a shirt and sweatshirt with reddish stains.
As a result of the around-the-clock investigation, Massachusetts State Police obtained an arrest warrant for Caron, who turned himself in on August 30th.
