Several people were injured, and a pet died after a crash on Route 6 in Massachusetts Tuesday.

According to police, at just before 12:45 p.m., Officers from the Bourne Police Department responded to reports of a multi-vehicle crash, with injury, on Scenic Highway (Route 6) in the area of Edgehill Road.

Upon officers arriving on the scene, they determined that three vehicles were involved in the crash.

It was also learned that one of the vehicles contained a large sized dog and Bourne’s Department of Natural Resources was requested to the scene. Unfortunately, the dog succumbed to its’ injuries at the scene.

Each of the vehicles involved in the crash contained two occupants and Bourne Fire and Rescue requested mutual aid assistance from Wareham EMS and Brewster Ambulance. Four occupants were transported to area hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries. Two occupants declined to be transported to the hospital.

A preliminary investigation revealed that one of the involved vehicles attempted an improper left turn while exiting a rest area and collided with a vehicle traveling eastbound. Both vehicles ended up in the westbound lane, where the collision with the third vehicle occurred.

The accident is still currently under investigation by the Bourne Police Department.
