Parts of Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut expected to see flooding rain, damaging winds, hail

Parts of southern New England are expected to see soaking and damaging storms.

According to the National Weather Service, two rounds of scattered thunderstorms are expected on Sunday.

The first in the morning will bring a localized heavy rain threat towards the south coast.

A second round of scattered thunderstorms later Sunday afternoon and evening may become severe & produce locally damaging wind gusts. Some small hail is a possibility with this round as well.

The forecast:

Sunday

Showers and thunderstorms before 2pm, then a slight chance of showers between 2pm and 5pm. Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall. High near 84. South wind 8 to 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Sunday Night

Showers and thunderstorms likely before 1am, then a slight chance of showers between 1am and 2am. Partly cloudy, with a low around 66. West wind around 6 mph becoming northwest after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
