One person was injured after an early morning crash into a Rhode Island business.

According to Lieutenant Jenison, on Saturday, at just after 12:30 a.m., officers from the Glocester Police Department and Glocester EMS responded to a serious motor vehicle accident near 1195 Putnam Pike. The incident involved a single vehicle that crashed into a business, coming to rest within the building.

The nearby intersection was temporarily closed to allow for a thorough investigation. Fire and rescue personnel from Chepachet and Harmony deployed the Jaws of Life to extricate the vehicle’s sole occupant, a local Glocester resident, who was then transported to Rhode Island Hospital with serious injuries.

The Glocester Police Accident Reconstruction Unit, along with Chepachet and Harmony EMS/Fire Departments, provided assistance at the scene.

The Glocester Building Official also responded, ordering part of the plaza to remain closed pending a structural assessment due to the catastrophic damage.

Who Cut The Cheesecake stated that they will be closed until further notice, but that nobody inside the business was hurt.

Aegean Pizza also reportedly suffered damage.

The owner of Heirloom Emporium states that they are still open and were not affected.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
