Owner of annual popular Tiverton Christmas light display expresses heartbreak having to cancel this year; what happened next was magical
It is a yearly Christmas display that is familiar to many in the Fall River area. When the owner expressed how heartbroken she is that she can’t do the display this year, community members stepped up.
Colleen St. Onge took to social media Sunday to make a post she was hoping to avoid.
“I haven’t known what to say so I have been avoiding posting anything.
“The Friday after Thanksgiving, my husband refused to work on the show anymore and said he would never wear the suit again.
“I kept praying he would change his mind, but he hasn’t
. I even begged him today to help me while it was nice out.
“I tried to do it by myself but its only 3/4 of the way done and I am not physically able to do what needs to be done by myself.
“I did not want to put this out there but so many of you have honestly shared your stories (and heartbreaks) with me over the years that I felt I needed to be honest with you, especially after I had posted we were running.
“I’m so, so sorry but the show is cancelled this year.
“I’m so heartbroken over this. I haven’t eaten in a week and keep crying.
“I’m so sorry for letting you all down.”
After seeing the post, community members began offering help to put the display together. One even offered to dress up as Santa.
Support continued to pour in on Sunday afternoon.
Their Christmas light show typical contains over 65,000 lights synchronized to music on 91.7 fm.
