One deceased at the scene, another seriously injured after blaze at Plymouth County home

WAREHAM — A late night fire has claimed one person’s life and left another with serious injuries, said Wareham Assistant Fire Chief Patrick Haskell, Wareham Police Chief Walter Correia, State Fire Marshal Jon Davine, and Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy Cruz
“On behalf of the Wareham Fire Department, I want to express our heartfelt condolences to the family that lost a loved one and a home last night,” said Chief Haskell. “This is a terrible tragedy for them and our community.”
The Wareham Fire Department responded to 101 Kimberly Court for a report of a fire at about 8:40 last night. On arrival, they observed a manufactured home fully involved with heavy smoke and flames. The incident commander quickly struck a second alarm to bring additional personnel and apparatus.
Firefighters located one adult who was seriously injured. That person was transported by Wareham EMS for medical care. Firefighters also learned that a second adult had not escaped. Sadly, that person was located inside and pronounced deceased at the scene. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will determine the cause and manner of death.
Firefighters were able to contain the fire to the original structure, protecting nearby trailers from the growing flames. They brought the fire under control in about 30 minutes, with one structure sustaining radiant heat damage.
The origin and cause of the fire are being investigated by the Wareham Fire Department, Wareham Police Department, State Police fire investigators assigned to the State Fire Marshal’s office, and State Police Detectives assigned to the Plymouth DA’s office. There were assisted last night by members of the Plymouth County Technical Rescue Team and the Department of Fire Services’ Code Compliance & Enforcement Unit.
The Onset Fire Department and Marion Fire Department provided mutual aid at the scene. The Department of Fire Services and Providence Canteen delivered firefighter rehab services to the fireground.
