One dead, another injured, in fiery head-on crash involving delivery truck on Route 28
MIDDLEBOROUGH — Police Chief Joseph Perkins and Fire Chief Owen Thompson report that the Middleborough Police and Fire Departments have responded to a fatal motor vehicle crash on Wareham Street.
On Friday, at approximately 1:30 p.m., Middleborough Police and Fire responded to Route 28 in the area of Cushman and Rocky Gutter streets for a report of a head-on crash.
Upon arrival, first responders observed that a delivery truck and an SUV had collided and subsequently caught fire.
The driver of the delivery truck was transported by ambulance to an area hospital.
The driver of the SUV was transported to an area hospital where they died from their injuries. The identity of the driver is not being released at this time pending notification of next of kin.
The drivers were the sole occupants in each vehicle.
Route 28 is closed to traffic between Cushman and Rocky Gutter streets while first responders remain on scene.
Middleborough Police are investigating the crash with assistance from the Massachusetts State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section.
