One arraigned from hospital bed after violent domestic machete and knife assault in Tiverton injures 2

TIVERTON, RI – The Tiverton Police Department continues to investigate a violent domestic violence incident that occurred on Saturday at just after 3:30 p.m. in the area of 51 Hooper Street.

According to police, Officers responded to multiple 911 calls reporting a physical altercation involving weapons.

Upon arrival, officers located two individuals suffering from significant injuries.

Both parties were provided medical treatment at the scene and transported to Rhode
Island Hospital for further care.

The investigation determined that the incident involved a 39-year-old Portsmouth woman
and a 41-year-old Tiverton man. Evidence collected at the scene, witness statements, and
the subsequent investigation led detectives to seek criminal charges.

On Monday, 39-year-old Annie Laurie Commons of Portsmouth, Rhode Island, was
arraigned at Rhode Island Hospital and charged with the following offenses:

-Domestic Violence – Felony Assault and/or Battery (R.I.G.L. § 11-5-2(b) and § 12-29-2(a)(2))

-Domestic Violence – Unlawful Breaking and Entering a Dwelling House, First Offense
(R.I.G.L. § 11-8-2(a) and § 12-29-2(a)(13))

-Domestic Violence – Disorderly Conduct (R.I.G.L. § 11-45-1(a) and § 12-29-2(a)(4))

-Domestic Violence – Assault with a Dangerous Weapon in a Dwelling House (R.I.G.L. § 11-
5-4 and § 12-29-2(a)(2))

-Possession of a Knife During the Commission of a Crime (R.I.G.L. § 11-47-59)

During the course of the investigation, officers recovered weapons believed to have been
used during the altercation, including a machete and a knife. Detectives and crime scene
investigators processed the scene pursuant to a court-authorized search warrant.

Several witnesses were interviewed, and investigators continue to review evidence related
to the incident. Additional charges may be considered pending the completion of the
investigation and consultation with the Rhode Island Attorney General’s Office.
