The names have been released of two people that died Tuesday in a multi-vehicle crash in Freetown.

Gregg Miliote of the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office stated that 54-year-old Jose Amorin from New Bedford, and 70-year-old Marinalva DeLima, also from New Bedford, were the victims in the Route 140 collision.

According to Dave Procopio of Massachusetts State Police, at approximately 8:15 a.m. today, Troopers assigned to State Police-Dartmouth received 911 reports of a black Kia Sedona being operated erratically on Route 140 northbound in Freetown.

As Troopers were dispatched to that area, a 911 caller reported the vehicle had just crashed off of the roadway at the 10.6 mile marker and struck a tree, striking three other vehicles in the process.

Upon arrival on scene, Troopers found two occupants inside of the Kia suffering from serious injuries. Life-saving efforts were performed by Freetown Fire and EMS, but both the operator, Amorin, and the passenger, DeLima, succumbed to their injuries at the scene.

The speed of the Kia is believed to have been a factor in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation by Troopers assigned to the Dartmouth Barracks, the Collision Analysis Reconstruction Section, the Crime Scene Services Section, and Bristol County State Police Detective Unit. Troopers were assisted on scene by MassDOT.

The operator of one of the other vehicles struck by the Kia suffered minor injuries.
